JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, 5-6 NOVEMBER 2014

Women from across South Africa and the international world shall gather in Johannesburg to addresses the fact that there is a huge pool of female talent simply not being utilized to the detriment of companies and the wider industry. The women shall partake in a two day symposium which will include a number of visits and tours hosted by institutions that have had major impact in the development of Africa.

The Women in Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Development (WEISED2020) Symposium is a social innovation project aimed at connecting professional and businesswomen to address their need for leadership, development, education and a network for mentoring.

The occasion was officially opened by the Hon Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe of the South Africa Ministry of Trade and Industry at the time. The event highlighted that women were concerned about the effects of the limited infrastructure and sustainable energy project opportunities available to them in Africa and called for a need to seek more fundamental, significant and practical roles for women in order to play a much greater role in the implementation of such related projects.

The WEISED2020 isdesigned to actively seek progress in recognition of the growing importance of procurement for economic development and was developed as a follow on from the GWIIN event held in Accra, Ghana on the 24 April 2012 and the report by the Women Investment Programme (WIP), a part of the Leading Women of Africa, which emphasises the significant and positive role women play in various sectors such as Technology, Oil And Gas, Construction & Housing, Solutions For Water And Sanitation Crisis In Africa.

The Women in Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Development (WEISED) International Conferencehas been designed to actively seek progress in recognition of the growing importance of procurement in energy for economic development and climate change mitigation following the designated 2012 year as the International Year of Sustainable Energy by the UN General Assembly resolution 65/151.

In addition, WEISED has been developed as a follow on from the GWIIN event held in Accra, Ghana on the 24 April 2012 and the recent report by the newly launched Women Investment Programme (WIP), a part of the Leading Women of Africa, which emphasises the significant and positive role women play invarious sectors such as Oil And Gas, Construction & HousingSolutions For Water And Sanitation Crisis In Africa, Women’s Entrepreneurship, Investing In People To Improve Organisational Performanceand Women In Investment.

Leading women from across Sub Sahara Africa, the Diaspora and beyond are increasingly concerned about the effects of the limited infrastructure and sustainable energy opportunities available and the impact it is having on the social and economic development of their communities. In addition, women are seeking a more significant and practical role for the implementation of such related projects that will involve them in partaking in the combined challenges and opportunities for transforming existing and future infrastructures while adopting a cleaner and more efficient consideration for the environment.

The Pan-African Women Inventors & Innovators Network (PAWIIN) have teamed up with Leading Women Of Africa (LWA) to work in partnership and organise the WEISED in order to ensure that women play a crucial role in the economies of their countries and the African continent.

This event shall act as a vehicle for putting the spotlight on the importance of diversity in the contribution to the development of sustainable energy opportunities and the Design, Planning and Implementation of Infrastructure Development in Africa.

The WEISED event therefore serves as a vehicle to engage with government departments, corporate, private, public and commercial stakeholders that support women investors and entrepreneurs by taking into account their unique potentials, circumstances, challenges, needs, levels of affordability while building deliberate affirmative action provisions into systems that facilitate opportunities for the contribution of women investors and entrepreneurs.

The WEISED event is also a new platform for bringing together forward thinking leaders from economic, social, knowledge and growth driven industries, the academia and government to engage in discussion and debate about trends in cross-sector innovation to provide opportunities for international debates and discussions on future perspectives for this area.

The platform will provide the opportunity to explore and learn more from invaluable models and strategies in order to take advantage of emerging services and opportunities.  Join us and be inspired by various industry experts, network with your peers and share good practice on how to shift to a new wave of innovation in this highly competitive and male dominated sector.

GWIIN AND LEADING WOMEN OF AFRICA TO LAUNCH

ON-LINE WEISED HUB

16 - 17 May 2013, Lagoon Beach Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa

Technology, Science, Engineering and Design are crucial to the wellbeing of any economy. Furthermore, GWIIN’s participation at the IBM’s Global Innovation Outlook ‘deep dives’ on Africa in 2008 revealed a number of aspects for Africa’s development and advancement leading us to take on further discussions. We are pleased that since the SAWIIS (Southern African Women’s Inventors & Innovators Symposium) Conference in South Africa, followed by events in Nigeria in 2010 and Ghana this year, we have teamed up with the ‘Leading Women of Africa’ to bring a brand new hub in response to the call for a technology tool that resonates with the culture and values of African women. The WEISED Hub will be designed for interactive engagement with innovative women seeking to win contracts for the development of the infrastructure of Africa. The Hub shall focus on areas such as Technology and Communication, Oil And Gas, Construction & Housing, Solutions For Water And Sanitation Crisis In Africa, Healthcare, Women’s Entrepreneurship and Women In Investment.
